On 23 September 2014, my first two articles on the subject of experimental folate deficiency were published in the peer-reviewed open-access journal, SpringerPlus. The articles describe two different aspects of the one experiment.; errors in red-cell folate immunoassays, and the biochemical and haematological responses to severe folate deficiency.
My self-experimentation is controversial, and publication of my articles has been very difficult, because my work challenges currently accepted dogma on:
- Reliability of pathology tests, in this case red-cell folate immunoassays
- Time taken to develop megaloblastic anaemia from folate deficiency
- Ethics of self-experimentation in medical research
On 19 June 2018, my third article on the subject of experimental folate deficiency was published in the peer-reviewed open-access journal, BMC Hematology. This Debate article describes my hypothesis about the influence of vitamin C status on the time taken to develop experimental folate deficiency.
